Forces loyal to Libya’s UN-backed Unity Govement say they have made further progress in their fight against Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) terrorist group militants in Sirte. With the help of US airstrikes, fighters claimed to have secured Residential Area Number Three over the weekend, and are now attacking the ISIS group's last remaining positions in the coastal city. Sirte has seen intense fighting in the last few months between govement forces and ISIS fighters, who gained a foothold in the country following the power struggle and security vacuum left in the wake of the downfall of Moammar Gadhafi's regime in 2011. Commander of the Iraqi Volunteer Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) Jabar al-Mamouri has said that the ISIL has arrested tens of its terrorists for escaping the battlefield in the city of al-Sharqat in Salahuddin province. “One of the ISIL's Saudi terrorists, nom de guerre Abu Hazifeh, committed suicide by jumping from a high building in the center of al-Sharqat city after escaping from ISIL’s jail where he was kept for fleeing the battlefield,” al-Mamouri said. A Florida woman was playing games on her mobile phone outside her house, when an uninvited guest weighing some 300 pounds (almost 135 KG) suddenly appeared right before her nose. Instead of panicking, she remained still and tued her cellphone camera on. The bear came within inches of the woman, and she later said she could feel its breath, according to media reports. The wild animal retreated after it saw a man walking behind the lady. Turkish forces continued to remove mines and booby traps left by Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) in Jarablus, close to Syria-Turkey border on Thursday, Al-Alam News Network reports. Rising thick black smoke from controlled explosions in Syria’s Jarablus could be seen from across the border in the Turkish town of Karkamis. It follows operation “Euphrates Shield,” in which Turkish troops and tanks entered Syria in support of terrorists (rebels) for the first time. The offensive began on August 24 with the swift capture of Jarablus, a town a few kilometers inside Syria that was held by ISIS. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Thursday insisted his country would not relax its contested anti-terror laws, a key condition laid down by the European Union for giving Turks visa-free access to the bloc. Yildirim pointed to the series of terror attacks that have rocked Turkey in the past year in telling visiting EU Parliament chief Martin Schulz the govement would maintain its hardline stance. “We have made it clear to the European Union and Mr. Schulz that we cannot amend our anti-terror laws under the current circumstances.
